about

MXCAREYES | Welcome to my book blog. I read and review Young Adult books, Memoirs, Biography, Contemporary Fiction, Science Fiction and Graphic Novels. I am a diverse reader. Haha! Isn't it obvious? Whenever I'm not reading a book, I'm either found in my room watching Korean (K-drama) series or just blog-hopping. See you in my future posts!

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Whether you’re thinking about that famous book your favorite author has written but you’re still not sure whether you would buy it or not or you just want to update your shelf, this little spot on the internet is here to help.

Since you’re already here right now, something tells me that you have a passion for books and reading.

But maybe you…

  • are still not sure if you would enjoy that book everyone is talking about.
  • need help in growing your To-Be-Read (if you’re a book-blogger like me) list.
  • need to buy a new book but you’re quite not sure which one is the one so you push back your trip to a bookstore because you don’t want to waste money.
  • don’t know enough new authors to start a book haul.
  • feel alone and lonely because your friends can’t and don’t even flip a page. (Your friends are supportive, but sometimes, you feel like they don’t quite “get it”).

No matter what time of the day it is, or how busy you are, you just can’t leave your babies books behind!

You just finished your exam and you need to know which book to read.

Your day off work just started and you want to reward yourself with a trip to that bookstore after working your ass off.

You’re ready to discover new authors you want to obsess over.

But you feel like you just can’t start reading. You’re stuck.

Trust me, pal. I’ve been there.

Here’s the thing: you’ve got to read a book… and I’m here to guide and help you which you should pick up. Right now.

Hey, I’m Mika Reyes and I’m obsessed with reading and giving my 100% honest opinion on the books I read!

How did this become my life?

In early 2016, I started reading books again after not reading for about 2 years (can you believe it?) because I had a very busy college life. I took up a four-year pre-med course in a college that’s 1.5-2 hours away from home, so the travel time alone has already eaten my precious time.

Last December 2016, my book collection started growing and I, as a college student back then, felt like it’s time for me to do stuff I am passionate about like writing since my pile of work was gradually decreasing already. Graduation day was nearing.

So I started a blog. At first, I didn’t know what to become of it. I didn’t know I was making a book blog. My blog had no direction. But when I was thinking about it, I slowly felt sure what I wanted to write about: books and my love of them!

Before, I just publish whatever book-related thought I want to be out there. I published about meeting an author, the list of my ever growing new collection of books, and some mainstream thing like “Bookish Facts About Me”. I started reviewing books that month last year too.

One month after, authors started reaching out to me asking me to review their books! My tiny self couldn’t stop smiling. I was so excited for my first trip to the post-office! I also always jump whenever the mailman is at my front door carrying a new free book. I can’t help.

When I was young, it was just a little dream of mine to meet, talk and be friends with authors– the superstars of my life– and now it is happening!

After blogging and publishing reviews and bookish posts consistently, opportunities came to me: I got published on Thought Catalog and one of my reviews has been posted on Amazon’s Editorial Reviews Section along with two trusted and big review sites, Kirkus and Indie Reader. 😉

Also, this year (2017), I received two medals from two different amazing websites (Feedspot and 10Greatest) for being one of the Top Book Review Blogs on the web! Here are my medals:

Crazy, right?

And now, to give back, I want to help you decide which book to read next, what to do when you are experiencing book slump, lure you into reading books you don’t usually give your attention to and so much more.

I usually publish my personal opinions (review) on these books: Young Adult, Contemporary, Memoir/Biography, and Children’s to Middle-Grade books. If you’re an author and you want me to review your books, please head over to my Review Policy page. 🙂
